Better Clothes, Better Choices: Why Materials Matter

Style draws people into fashion, but what lies beneath the surface often matters more. The materials that make up a garment shape not only how it looks and feels but also the impact it leaves behind. At Good Man Brand, we believe that better clothes can lead to better choices, and those choices can add up to a better future. Materials are where that story begins.

Building the Foundation of Responsibly Sourced Fashion

When people talk about responsibly sourced fashion, the conversation often starts with design or trends. The truth is that responsibility is built at the material level. Every fiber, textile, or leather carries its own story. Some are tied to practices that use too much water or put chemicals into the soil, while others are chosen to protect natural resources and extend the life of what we wear.

Responsibly sourced apparel begins here. Organic cotton reduces harmful pesticides and chemicals that damage farmland and water supplies. Recycled polyester gives new life to existing resources. Leather from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group follows stricter environmental standards than the industry average. These choices might sound technical, but they are an important part of the footprint a product leaves behind.

What Responsible Fabrics Look Like

Responsible fabrics take many forms at Good Man Brand. Some are familiar but sourced with greater care. Others are completely new, born from innovations that would have seemed unlikely just a decade ago. At Good Man Brand, we keep responsibility and innovation at the center of how we design.

  • Organic Cotton: Every piece of apparel for the Fall/Winter 2025 season is made with organic cotton that meets the Global Organic Textile Standard, ensuring environmental care and worker protections.

  • Recycled Fibers: Inputs such as recycled polyester and recycled rubber reduce dependence on virgin materials. By putting waste back into use, we limit landfill growth while still delivering high performance.

  • Certified Leathers: Our footwear uses leathers from tanneries rated Gold or Silver by the Leather Working Group. These ratings come from strict assessments of water use, chemical management, and traceability.

  • Bio-Based and Vegan Alternatives: Plant-based leathers and vegan leather represent what is possible when innovation and responsibility meet.

Each of these fabrics is chosen for how it performs and for the story it carries.

Why Materials Matter to the Person Wearing Them

The impact of responsible fabrics is not just behind the scenes. It shows up in the customer experience. The comfort of organic cotton, the durability of recycled fibers, and the craftsmanship of certified leather are all felt directly.

When someone chooses responsibly made clothing, they are choosing more than a look. They are joining a shift toward better habits and higher accountability. A sneaker or a sweatshirt becomes more than an item in the closet. It represents a decision to support progress, even in small ways.

How Individual Choices Add Up

One purchase alone may not change the world, but thousands of purchases that follow the same pattern begin to create meaningful impact. Less chemical runoff, less waste, more suppliers held to higher standards.

Better clothes lead to better choices. Better choices ripple outward. They influence communities, companies, and industries over time. Progress in fashion may not happen overnight, but it builds. Each season that focuses on responsibility lays the groundwork for the next.

The Good Man Brand Commitment

At Good Man Brand, responsibility is central to how we work. Our Goods Mandate scoring system tracks every product. Items are placed into three categories: Basic, Better, or Best. Only those that use responsibly sourced or certified materials reach the higher levels, and our focus is on moving more of our collections into those categories each season.

This level of transparency holds us accountable and also helps customers understand what their purchase represents. Alongside this, we continue our 3% giveback to the Why Not You Foundation and maintain our status as a certified B Corporation. The use of responsible fabrics is one piece of a larger picture that combines environmental and social progress.

Looking to the Future

Materials will shape the future of fashion more than any trend. New options are arriving quickly, from circular fabrics designed to be broken down and reused, to lab-developed textiles that combine strength with responsibility. What will not change is our focus on aligning design with better choices.

Better clothes create better choices. Those choices build momentum. When enough people and brands lean into them, they shift what fashion stands for. For Good Man Brand, the path forward begins with the fabrics we choose and the responsibility we carry with every collection.
